Global Standards


Global standards are emerging that call for verification of production standards and chain of custody traceability.


ROUND TABLE ON SUSTAINABLE PALM OIL (RSPO)

This standard was launched in November 2007. This is now becoming the baseline for the production of sustainable palm oil and will soon have an additional criterion added on the accounting for greenhouse gas emissions. Palm Oil and Palm Oil products will not be allowed enter substantial markets if they can not be verified as complying with the RSPO Standard.


GLOBAL REPORTING INITIATIVE (GRI)

This is a an initiative by an Amsterdam based organisation to define a global format for sustainability reporting. The report format covers Economic, Environment and Social issues and calls for monitoring and trending of sustainable practices.


INTERNATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY AND CARBON CERTIFICATION (ISCC)

This standard is an international system developed in Germany for certification of biomass and bioenergy. It covers the topics of: greenhouse gas reduction, sustainable management of land, protection of natural habitats and social sustainability.


GLOBALG.A.P.

This is a standard within the private sector body that serves as a practical manual for Good Agricultural Practice (G.A.P.) by setting voluntary standards for the certification of production processes of agricultural (including aquaculture) products around the world.
